Why current Ebola outbreak is the deadliest ever

Speaker: Donald Francis, M.D., D.Sc., co-founder and executive director of Global Solutions for Infectious Diseases, S. San Francisco

Don Francis is an internationally recognized infectious disease expert. In a more than 30 year career, including 21 with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, he has worked on AIDS, smallpox eradication and Ebola, among other global health issues. His role in the early years of the AIDS epidemic was portrayed by actor Mathew Modine in the movie "And the Band Played On."

On Oct. 7, Dr. Francis will discuss the current Ebola outbreak and how it differs from anything we've seen before. As a physician and epidemiologist, Francis has first-hand experience with the disease. In 1976, he was as part of four-man team sent by the World Health Organization to Sudan during the first recorded Ebola outbreak.
