NCSWA is pleased to announce our second Digital Media Workshop of the fallundefinedon digital photography!

Photography is storytelling, not just art to fill space next to text. This workshop will teach you how to take great photos that go beyond just illustrating your story. We will cover hands-on camera and Photoshop basics, helping you to better utilize the full potential of your camera and understand file types, file sizes and other image requirements of most publications.

This workshop will be co-taught by Mark Murrmann (Photo Editor at Mother Jones magazine) and Tristan Spinski (a photojournalist whose work has appeared in Naples Daily News, The Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times Sunday Magazine, Mother Jones, and other publications).

Registration for this workshop is limited to 25, offered on a first-come, first-served basisundefinedsecure your spot early!

In addition to the nuts and bolts of photography, we will delve into the essentials of photojournalism, such as ways to humanize your story, effective storytelling through photos, how to think visually, what makes for compelling composition and importantly, how to edit your photos for publication/multimedia and to help you get more work as a writer/photographer.

This workshop is designed for writer/photographers at all skill levels. Whether you're just learning the way around your camera or have successfully published photos with your stories, we can help you reach the next step in your budding photo career.

Participants should bring the camera they use most often when reporting and a laptop with image editing software. If you have images you've shot (or published) for previous stories, please bring those as well.
