NCSWA Mentoring Program

NCSWA's mentoring program focuses on career development for professional science communicators.

Mentors share their knowledge and experience, helping others as they themselves were helped, while mentees benefit from seasoned advice and new perspectives on advancing their careers.

The program also gives participants an opportunity to grow personally, and builds community by connecting our members.

Mentors and mentees can be of any age and career stage, you can apply to be both a mentor and a mentee at the same time, and there is no limit to how often you can participate. However, preference will be given to those who have not yet participated.

While the program is designed for NCSWA members who currently work as professional science communicators, students and aspiring science communicators are welcome to apply and will be paired with a mentor if there is a suitable match.

Mentors and mentees are paired with each other based on short applications and agree to meet at least four times over the course of a year, either virtually or in person.

The mentoring program accepts applications once a year, typically during late summer, and the application period is announced via email as well as in the NCSWHAT newsletter.
